ANIMATION

ABOUT

For this shoot I was inspired by Maurizo Anzeri. I wanted to combine the use of technology with Anzeri’s idea of showing feeling and emotions through photography. I believe that the added aspect of  technology has combined modern techniques with classic photography style. I then used animation to create an aesthetically pleasing image catching the attention of the human eye with an interactive installation. In my project I have used the running idea of an individual’s consumption in technology shown by how the animation outlines the model and the phone juxtaposing the sombre look of the image. I first decided to use this technique around the outline of a human to show the use of technology has consumed their body. I used bright colours, similar to the techniques and colours Anzeri used in his work.

SECOND IDEA

I then decided to use the same technique on mobile phones. I brought up pages such as this one showing celebrity news that the modern generation seems to be interested in. In this article they have written a page on ‘Celebrity doing things’ however shows Kylie Jenner, a reality tv star and huge public influence, chilling. Is this really what our generation is interested in? Such a trivial action being used to create an article viewed on such a large platform as Snapchat, which has become one of the most used social media platforms in the past few years. I have then created an animation on top of this image to show that the technology is the main aspect of this image and how news stories like this, which in my opinion is not news at all, consumes us (shown by the way the patterns consume the image).

Similar to the image showing an article of ‘celebrities doing things’ I have again used a mobile phone to show how people’s lives are captured on technology. I have created a conversation using only emojis, the most modern form of conversation, not understood by older generations. This shows the importance of technology in younger generations, spending time learning a whole new language. The animation on top of the image creates a live aspect to the image and a colourful interaction between the viewer and the image.

HOW I CREATED THESE IMAGES

To create these images i used an online program called Sketchpad (https://sketch.io/sketchpad/) to create the patterned effect on top of the image. Before putting my images on to this program I used Photoshop to edit the images. When creating the piece using a model, i added a sepia filter to the image and reduced the saturation of the image, I did this to make the animation have more of an impact on the image however, I decided to not use black and white, similar to Anzeri, because I wanted to experiment showing that the technology i used has lightened up her imagination despite also having negative impacts, which is why I still reduced some of the colour from the image. I then went on to sketchpad and created patterns around/ on the image. After each pattern i added (by using the web tool) i downloaded the image. After creating a minimum of 5 images with different patterns, i moved them over to Photoshop. I used a timeline to create an animation changing each image to appearing for 0.5 seconds. I finallyexported this image creating it in to a gif. However, when animating the image, it slightly comprimises the image and creates a slightly pixelated effect. I believe that this has not taken away from the effectiveness of the animation and image.
