MY FAVOURITE IMAGE

REFINED IMAGE

I have then refined my idea using different techniques. I used a different image of a robotic hand more suitable to the image, as I found it an issue in my previous image due to it being difficult to cover the original hand. The change in hand meant a more realistic look was created. I also decided not to remove the shadow underneath the arm to give the image a more realistic look as the I replaced the background with a grey fill so that it was easier to cover the human hand and create a more refined look. Before doing this i had tried using the clone stamp to cover the orginal hand however due to inconsistent lighting in my image, it was different to create a smooth background, influencing my decision to fill the background rather than using the natural background image. I used two layers of the human arm cutting the hand and background away from one, and covering the hand in the lower layer. I did this so that the top layer of the arm could cover the end of the robotic hand to create a realistic effect. This image is my favourite as I believe that my refinements have made the image more realistic. I also refined the double layer at the end of the hand which I believe makes the image more realistic because it looks as thought the arm is really cut off because flesh would not be a 2D layer. I also like the image of the robotic hand I used because it has a feminine feel to it, making the image more realistic and complimenting the feamle arm.

ABOUT

I created this shoot inspired by the idea of robotics formed by my response to Zach Blas. In the modern day we are all somewhat robots of the internet, created to absorb information from social media platforms, including celebrity news and fake news. Brainwashed by what we see online, new generations can be compared to non human characters. This shoot has focussed on individual's consumption of the internet and how opinions are no longer an idividual's, but created by their peers online.

I created this image by taking photographs of my mother and fathers hand/arm is different positions. I wanted to work with the idea of robotics and how we are all creations of the media. I created the image on photoshop using multiple layers to create the effect of a robotic hand protruding a human arm. After placing the robotic hand under the cut off arm layer, I added a drop shadow to the robotic hand as when covering the human hand shadow was lost in the image due to not being consistent lighting meaning instead of using the clone stamp tool I filled the background in a colour. However, I do not like how the drop shadow turned out as I believe that it has made the image look slightly unrealistic in the way a shadow would not be present the whole way around a hand if holding it against a wall. I added an extra layer of the cut off arm to show the thickness of flesh and show that it is not just 2D. In the future, I would refine this idea and use less of the blurring and rubber tool to create this idea more effective. I used the rubber tool on the blurred setting to help to straighten out the edge of the arm to make it more realistic (as the edges had been made jagged from using quick selection tool). I like this image because I believe it shows how technology has a monumental impact on us as a society as well as individuals.
