DEVELOPMENT
For my final piece I decided to further explore the idea of patterns on top of an image. I believe these patterns combine different periods of time and create a visually pleasing and somewhat interactive image. I decided to take photographs of my parents at the dinner table both on their phones. I did this to show how technology is such a major presence in our community that all generations are starting to use technology in everyday life, creating an ignorance in everyone around us. I decided to have them using phones to also further highlight the way technology consumes us being inspired by ideas used in both Maurizo Anzeri and Eric Pickersgill's work.

After using stitching to create a pattern in my response to Maurizo Anzeri, i decided to explore the idea of using other mediums on a printed image. First I used coloured pencils on the image to create a pattern, however i did not use this image as it was difficult to see the coloured pencils on top of the image due to the brightness of the image. I believed that it was not effective because I wanted the patterns to stand out in the image and draw to eye to this part of the photograph. In development, I decided to use gel pens (in gold, silver and white) to create a bolder pattern. I like this idea because it creates a bold outline. I decided to connect the models' eyes to their phones to show their ignorance of one another, despite being connected in relationship, their eye is drawn to their phones. However, I do not like this image because I believe it is not as interactive with the viewer. I also believe that it does not show my desired message effectively as I wish to connect technology with classic, simple photographs. In the future i would refine this idea by experimenting using different patters.

To further develop this idea I continued to use the same technique i used in my shoot 4. I did this as i believe that it combines modern technology with simple photographs as well as creating an interactive photograph grasping the viewers attention. Developing from my shoot 4 i have combined the use of phones by the viewer with the use of animation. I like this image because the animation connects the viewers eye to their phones and the bright colours draw the attention of the viewer to the animation. I also believe that the animation helps to show how the patterns are explaining the models' emotions and thoughts, which in this case are mainly based around their phones as this is the only connection which remains present throughout the whole animation. Before putting on to Sketpad I edited the photograph on Photoshop creating a black and white image however duplicating and rubbing out the layer where the phones are to make them the main focus of the image if the animation was not present. To refine this image I would experiment using different patterns and colours showing different connections in the thoughts of this image.
