FINAL EVALUATION
From looking at the list of possible topics I decided to choose the theme 'The Information Age'. I came to this decision by creating mindmaps for each of the themes. I felt inspired by The Information Age as it is something that many of this generation can relate to and I immediately came up with idea. I started my project by looking at artists such as Zach Blas and Maurizo Anzeri, who were big influences in my final piece.
When doing my research when deciding what theme I wanted to base my project on, I found a television advertisement by Nationwide building society. This advertisement explained how our generation are so consumed by technology that despite being able to connect with people across the World in an instant, we still seem to be the loneliest generation, with many sitting inside checking their social media platforms rather than going out and spending time with friends and family. I created this shoot by photographing a young person who has been consumed by technology, isolating herself from humanity.
Following this shoot, I created a shoot showing how the use of technology have shapes the knowledge of our generations, with phones replacing the things once looked; like hard copy books. The use of technology does not only isolate us, but also often gives false knowledge from fake news and the influence of celebrities on social media platforms. The use of all this technology also creates health implications, with studies showing an extensive amount of time spent on the phone can lead to cancer, and looking at screens constantly can lead to poor eyesight.
After looking at and responding to four artists, Zach Blas further inspired me. In Blas’ work he looked at robotics and biometric facial recognition using highly advanced technology software similar to the complexity used to create robotics. I created my shoot to look at how us, as a society are all somewhat creations of our online personalities, with many people believing they can only show who they are online and do not feel accepted in day to day life. My shoot highlights how people don’t even realise that they are a creation of the internet as we all have human skin and think of ourselves as having our own opinions. However, our opinions are often influenced by what we see online even if we don’t realise it ourselves.
As a development of Maurizo Anzeri’s work, I created a shoot using animation to show the idea of societies consumption in the Internet, an on-going topic in my project. The use of animation surrounding faces, and our phones, which are often seen as a part of us with the majority of young people not willing to leave their house without their mobile phones.
For my final piece, I was strongly influenced by the work of Maurizo Anzeri’s style and the way Zach Blas spoke about how our opinions are mainly based on what we see online. Throughout my project I have focssed on the idea of internet consumption and how this has impacted the modern generation, with Eric Pickersgill looking at how phones have caused us to ignore the World around us. I decided to use the idea of animation in my final piece as it shows a person consumption by a graphic made using technology surrounding their body.
